Since we have moved towards a membership-style service, many of our patients have noticed a remarkable positive difference in how they feel on a day-to-day basis. One of our patients has been with us for over a year, suffering from plantar fasciitis and other ailments related to working from home. In this case study, we’ll take a look at how this patient progressed through treatment and how the new system is working for her.

Case Study: Plantar Fasciitis

Plantar fasciitis is a pretty common ailment that we see quite a bit. Initially, when Amanda came to see us, we assessed her condition and pain level. She reported that the pain was debilitating, leaving her unable to walk long distances or even complete daily tasks like cooking. Both feet were extremely inflamed, with the left worse than the right. We utilized the Foot Levelers custom orthotics scanner to determine she did indeed have collapsing arches and fitted her for inserts as well as a pair of sandals.

Due to the high amount of inflammation and pain, we recommended treatment 2-3 times a week to get it under control. Combined with ice therapy at home several times a day, Amanda began feeling relief in just a few weeks. We continued with weekly therapy for several months.

The Inevitable Happens

Like most people, once Amanda started to feel better she started coming less and less often. Soon it had been several months since we had seen her. As a result, she experienced a flare-up in foot pain – and presented with a new problem in her shoulder. Unfortunately, this pattern is all too common. We see patients improve, and then POOF! they disappear. Body maintenance only takes priority when someone is in so much pain they can’t function. After a few sessions with us, they now think the problem is solved! However, people tend to continue the same habits at home that caused the pain to begin with. Unless you make lifestyle changes, you’ll likely end up right back here again. This “boomerang” effect ends up costing more time and money since we essentially have to start over each time.

The Maintenance Solution

After witnessing our patients boomerang in and out of treatment, we decided to take a different approach. With the monthly membership options (read more here), we are able to provide quick, regular sessions to keep your body in working order. When Amanda got started with the 8 sessions/month membership, she noticed almost immediately an improvement in how her whole body felt during daily life as well as at the gym. The foot pain has once again receded. She is back to walking over 10K steps a day and working out 3x a week. When issues do arise (shoulder pain while benching or a tight quad when squatting), we can assess it and work on it BEFORE it gets worse. Regular sessions also allow for an ongoing dialogue about proper body mechanics, ergonomic work seating, and at-home care like icing.

If you’ve been guilty of the boomerang in the past and want to get out of the cycle of injury, come see us at Organic Mechanics. Our goal is to keep you feeling good month after month – not just a few days after treatment. Experience the difference our membership plan is making for so many of our patients.
